Default Eastport again....

Hi folks,
In pondering my move to the area, I came across this house...Our Listings anyone know anything about it? It is on 118 Water St., I hope this link from Dueeast shows it.

It's pretty nice, but a lot more than I would want to spend...just want your thoughts on it, and maybe they would come down a LOT on it :-)

It's a beautiful house, I've been inside once I think and I loved it. It's one of Eastport's historic houses.

Is it an open kitchen? My wife likes it, but I don't like the idea of that big of a payment :-) Wish I had looked at when I visited in Sept.

Nope, at least I don't remember it that way... that might be something you could fix, but it might not

I agree with Molly, I don't remember an open kitchen. In Eastport, most kitchens are not open to other rooms unless it's been remodeld or changed from it's original design.

That house used to be Rolando's Restaurant back in the day; there was no open kitchen. The house I grew up in is just a couple houses down the street, and for sale on the same site for 10 grand more. It has a great open kitchen, that opens up into a massive living space with vaulted cathedral ceilings. It's at 130 Water St., the listing number is #960 MLS 22488. Open kitchens are hard to find.

Thank you all for the information; I'll look at the other house. Are these type of prices pretty expensive for the area? If I commute to Calais for work, I don't want to have a huge mortgage :-)

I think these houses are closer to being worth the price than a lot of others in town. Not many sales to us locals at the prices they ask. But these are two of the more realistic. Still a bit over assessed value though.

I suspect you are right, but it is nice to dream. It might be better for me to buy a lot and build--assuming I could manage the project by myself.

There are a few folks that do that too. A waterfront lot in Eastport is going to cost you almost as much as a house though. If you don't need a large yard there are some nice smaller places. Some folk buy a house and rebuild it to their specs. I can think of a few doing that now. There are some good contractors in the area also. Check at City Hall (blatant plug), they have some lists.
