Not intending to be a grinch, but I purely, absolutely, detest those blow up Christmas decorations. My neighbor has one and put it right next to the property line. I don't want anyone to think I would put up something so tacky. So, what's wrong with Christmas lights? Regular, normal bulbs?

Tree will be put up sometime before December 25th. After all, the 12 days of Christmas run from Christmas Day until January 6th. We keep everything going until January 6th (Epiphany). That way the day after Christmas isn't such a letdown. When I was growing up the tree came down New Years Day, but only after I begged to keep it up a few days longer. My mother would have taken it down on the 26th.

I agree with you on those hideous blow up Christmas decorations. I hope that they soon fall out of fashion, the sooner the better.

Have you seen the new LED Christmas lights? I like them. They are extra bright, with sort of a clean light, and are supposedly more energy efficient.

Our tree went up a few days after Thanksgiving. Fake! But our fireplace is real! It got down to nearly 32 degrees last night here in N FL and DH was splitting wood yesterday to burn. Today it warmed up to...well, I won't go there. I actually prefer it cooler at this time of year. Even though the tree is fake, a fireplace is cozy and seems Christmassy to me. Hope it gets a just a bit warmer for you Mainers soon, out of the single digits anyway, and that you get "just enough" snow.

Now 'cmon you two elitists you cannot judge another's Christmas decorations! They are as personal as the choice of a car or house color. I like the old lights but the new LED's are cheap to run and have a neat glow to them. Someday they will be cheap enough to buy. I don't have an inflatable fake snow globe or an infaltable Frosty but who cares??? If the people like them then let them have them!

Maineah, your right, we don't shovel sunshine, but we do have the old threat of having to shovel our whole house should one of Katrina's sisters (or brothers) come visiting.

A meteor could hit you no matter where you are. Hurricanes are a fact of life. It doesn't seem to keep people from building on the coast down there though does it?
Ask forest beekeeper how he liked the river in his livingroom last spring! We lost a large number of roads here in Maine due to flooding this year. There are problems no matter where you live. San Diego has supposedly the best weather in the country but has jets falling out of the sky.

Grinch! I'm trying to imagine how you'd look if you turned green and wore one of those funny hats.

Along with some others , we have elected not to put up a tree this year.........its our little part , considering the economy. I just don't feel that generous. Yes . there will be some lights , and ribbons , candles, and , such , those left overs , down from the attic, but , no tree......if there were kids around , I may think differently , but , there is not.
