Had our septic cleaned out today. It was full. We won't do that again.

The story is good though. Four guys spent four hours helping us find it because no proper cleanout had been installed and it was deep. It involved getting as close to the rear of this old property as possible because of the elevation and anyways the septic tanker got stuck near the road as it was trying to leave but it was inclined too much and he hit ice. So there he sat and it would have cost him plenty to have a tow. So I went to a neighbors house and he wasn't home so went to town and asked another person if he could help. He drove out to access the situation and then came back with his loader and pulled him right out like it was a Civic. He drove away before the septic tanker driver could even thank him. And while we were standing there near the road, my other neighbor came by and said he's sorry he couldn't be there first.

I guess the moral of the story is, it's nice to have friends and neighbors like these in Maine. And the attidude of everyone involved was that this is normal around here. I like doing business around here.

And the stories flying around all afternoon were something to behold. In addition to these four guys were me, my brother and nephew.

I learned a thing or two about #2 today too.

Did I hear that right?

Did you say that you have a shortage of rum?

That can be fixed you know.

Well, a light dusting of 'Global Warming' [GW] this morning, followed by rain.

The GW on the ground has receded enough to expose a couple of our raised beds. About half of them are still firmly engulfed in GW.

Our maple started to visibly turn amber coloured yesterday. We seem to be getting about 9 quarts of sap each day, from 7 taps. Just debating if I want to install more taps, or not. This being our first year messing with maple and all.

I ordered a bunch of fruit trees last fall, expecting shipment in the spring. But one company shipped in December. So I laid the bare-root trees on their sides under a layer of sand in the basement, wrapped in feed bags so the cats don't try to 'dig' in the sand. But in the bundle of trees is a couple chestnuts. Those crazy chestnut trees are covered with leaves already. It is dark, 50* and those chestnuts are sprouting. Is that crazy? I don't want to put them outside until the snow is gone, obviously.

It looks to be a nice spring day though
