Each tower has numerous drilled holes going down 42 feet into bedrock. Then there is a large quantity of concrete poured for each tower. It's a lot easier to go along with a post hole digger to set the poles for a transmission line. There is no rush. They can't bring a few towers on line before they are all done. It wouldn't be safe.
you got it right nmlm they need to put up all the towers befor the can connect then they junction them all together with a distrabution box then to a sub station.

Exactly- why join a grid and worry about who pockets the profits? I would buy my own if I owned a homestead or farm.

Here is a link to a gorgeous, designer designed ( Philippe Starck ) wind turbine for single home for only $633.

Is that thing a giant eggbeater attachment? Pretty dumb-looking, IMHO. I agree that any attempt by government to 'manage' residential alternative energy is just going to stick it to consumers. I'll go my own way with solar, wind, or hydro before I relied on a municipality to provide the service and manage it effectively...somebody will always be skimming the cream from the top. I want the cream.

OK...made my way over to Mars Hill yesterday, and drove up past the country club and around all the way to the north gate where you could get a clear look at the northernmost nine of these 1.5MW GE turbines. I stood no more than a couple hundred feet from the very northernmost one, and they were all (28) spinning pretty good, except one that was down (for repairs?)

Anyway, the noise was barely audible. Something above a whisper in a room at ten feet, but not quite up to an audibilized sentence from that distance.

Frankly, based on what I witnessed yesterday, I don't see the noise being an issue, although I suppose it could be much worse in a full gale. The flickering glare issue I can not speak to, as I was to the north, and the son was never blocked even partially where I stood during my brief stay.

I think the real issue here has to be getting local rate payers some direct benefit in terms of rate reduction from these projects. Certainly, that's where my focus will remain.

This, however, is a very interesting development for anyone following this issue closely:

Cuomo Probing Conduct Of Wind Power Companies

ALBANY—The Attorney General’s office has launched an investigation into two companies developing and operating wind farms across New York state amid allegations of improper dealings with public officials and anti-competitive practices.
