Congrats toadling. My grandfather and his brothers (1865on thru 1890 or so) had uncommon names. How 'bout Edgison, Wellington, or Adoniram Judson. I'm trying to talk my daughter into some of those. Not working. LOL But, I had grandmothers named Edith Victoria and Marie Celestine (Quebecois). Now those aren't hard to talk her into.

Make sure the name you pick won't be confused or mispronounced. My wife's name is Helene (like lean). Just about everyone messes it up untill we correct them. No, it's not Helen or Helena.

My son's name is Brent. Even saying it slowly and distinctly, people call him Bret or Brad. What makes it more interesting is my stepson's name is Brek. In the past they both worked for me part time. When they'd go to the lumberyard individually to pick up material for a job, they'd say " I'm Bill's son", and sign the slips with almost identical first names and different last names. The guys behind the counter still scratch their heads.

Congrats Toadling!

In my family, in my generation we have used family names to name our children.

My daughter's name is Mattie. Named after my maternal grandmother.

My brother named his sons Aubrey - after my paternal grandfather
and Addison James, after our paternal great grandfather and our dad.

The name left that everyone is /was hoping that my either one of my sisters would use is Lillian Grace. After our paternal great grandmother.

My son's name is Drew, which has no connection to anyone. We just liked it.

Can't wait to hear what you decide on!

I named my daughter Hillary after a girl I had a crush on in 4th grade! When Hillary Clinton burst on the scene many years later I almost regretted the choice. She likes her name though. and Hillary Clinton too....I gotta work on that part.

WOW! I really like Wellington, Victoria, and MArie Celestine AND I'm not even having a baby. BUT I do collect dolls - have way to many - and you have just named my next three! Thanks.

I always liked the name too, but the picture that pops up in my brain when it's mentioned now is definitely something I can't share here. I can empathize with you, Maineah. My daughter, who was a registered Republican, told me that she was voting for Obama. I had a long talk with her to no avail. She happens to work part time at Hard Rock Cafe, and the "Rock The Vote" propagada got to her. At least she was honest with me, but I could tell she was really nervous. After hearing my consrvative rants for 28 years, she probably thought I might disown her.

Jenny, Jesse, Esther, Elsie, Gloria, Phyllis, a lot of feminized male names were popular, Roberta, Victoria, Pauline.

We still love them no matter what foolish choices they make! My son leans to the conservative side as do I, my wife, and her parents. Everyone else in both of our families are liberal! We love each other without reservation and though there is heated disagreement now and then we never let politics stand in the way of family bonds. Since I'm on the verge of writing to Susan Collins to impeach Bush if he gives the Big Three money without the consent of Congress I'll stay quiet about Obama and take a wait and see attitude.....spoken like a politician!

Glad I could help you out. I should dig thru the family tree 'cuz I think there are more just like them. I've barely scratched the Quebec side.

My BIL says Obama is the Prez of hope. "I hope he don't screw up the economy more; I hope he doesn't screw up the military, I hope...." I go along with him on this one.
