My daughter is pregnant and due at the end of January beginning of February. She is having a girl. She has two boys, Gavin and Ryan. I asked her if she wanted me to pick out a girls name, reminding her of her ancestors names..Phyllis, Mildred, Hulda, Stella, Gloria and Joan. She decided on Keela. Obviously this is not all about me

Keela is cute! I couldn't name a kid Mildred or Stella! Those names sound so 'stern'. Keela is sweet sounding!

My 92 year old mom is Mildred. Her 94 year old sister is Reva. My grandmothers were Ethel and Edna. Their sisters were Stella and Florence. Not exiting names, but I'm glad my parents did not bend to family pressure when I was born. My dad was a junior, and my grandparents wanted me to named the "third". So glad my folks decided on William. I know, plain old Bill. I would have been a different person going through life as "Harry III."

I wouldn't name my kids Mildred or Stella either (not that there's anything wrong with that...) but I figured I should get her all wound up. Payback..lol

My daughter is named after her maternal great-grandmother and maternal great-grandfather. Danielle Allyson. My grand dad was Daniel and my grandmother was Alice. Everyone 30 years ago was using the name Alison and it was my first choice, but I wanted something original. NO ONE was naming their baby Danielle... until the year that I did! lol

Once she went to school, it was obvious it was the Jennifer, Susan or Jane name of her day. There were 4 other girls with Danielle for a name... in a class of 200 kids! lol So, she always had to sign her name Dani D. or Danielle D. - she became so accustomed to sharing her name and signing her last name that way on her school papers, almost all her holiday cards to family were signed Love, Dani D.!!!

Anyway, she was the 14th great-grandchild born and the only one who had used the 'greats' names, but it still didn't end up being very original. lol

I like the name Abigail... lol I grew up not having a nickname to my name... not like Margaret who could be Maggie, Peg, Peggy, Meg, etc.... just Gale. Ugh.

And the next time I have a boy cat, I'm naming him Jasper!!!

Congrats on the pregnancy and have fun picking the name out! What's your due date?

Default An old New England name.

My great, great, great grandfather [mother's side] was named "Pardon."

Born in 1827, he was a rock-solid sort of man; a road is named for him in Rhode Island.

I wonder if his friends called him "Pard" ?

I really like this name....and its implications of forgiveness and grace.
