To all of you who use natural gas to heat your homes, please make sure your furnace vents are cleared of the accumulating drifts and piles of snow.

A fireman's 7 year old daughter was killed in Plymouth, Ma in 2005 from this very thing. He was out on rescue calls and came home to find his pregnant wife son, and daughter unresponsive. The wife and son pulled through, the unborn child and daughter did not.

Carbon monoxide is a odorless and colorless gas that is produced by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and gas and wood. It is produced in home furnaces, boilers, engines, and open fires.

Stay safe!

How tragic! Thanks for the reminder, Coastal. We have a carbon monoxide detector, and you just reminded me to plug it back in.

We have a gas fireplace at the camp, but we're safe, since it has an emergency low-oxygen shutoff feature...right? o_O

You are such a trip Ranger!!! roflmao

Mass. now has Nicole's Law which requires all homes, all apartment buildings, condos, etc., to adhere to the carbon monoxide sensor laws they've passed. Cheap way to save your family and/or your own life.

Anyone can pick them up at a big box store or probably any hardware store for a few extra bucks. They're less than $30.
