Final Stage with our move to Maine
Well, This is it. The Honda is packed! We have hit the highway and we are well on our way to Maine.
We are taking our time with this trip (hoping the ice will melt ) and seeing the sites along the way. Our first stop was at Appomattox Court House. (picture of McClean House) Well worth the visit. Plus not too far from there is the D Day National Memorial in Bedford, VA. That was moving for us both.
Today we are in Charlottesville, VA to see Monticello. Tomorrow we are on the road again.

Have a safe and enjoyable drive! The phrase "moving to Maine" is an instant mood enhancer in our house.
Anyone driving near DC between now and Jan. 20--
Do take care what time of day you drive through the DC area. Avoiding I-95 is probably best.

Not that everyone wants to do this, but one thing I ALWAYS enjoy doing on road trips along I-95 is stopping in Times Square. Yes, driving in New York City (well, sort of).
It's SOOO much easier than it sounds and it's not out of the way and you don't have to do really any city driving. If you take the 495/Lincoln Tunnel Exit off of 95 a little ways north of Newark, NJ and follow it for all of the 2 or 3 miles it is, you'll end up in the Lincoln Tunnel (still 495). Go through the tunnel and when you come out, there is a ramp to your right leading to a parking garage at the 8th Ave Transportation Center (it's well marked).... take that ramp and park (it's never difficult). You are now a 1.5 Block walk from Times Square... right along the Famous 42nd Street. You can walk into Times Square, grab lunch (I avoid the chains and go for the pubs, but you can do whatever you like), look around and then leave (Madam Tussaud's is right accross the street from the garage).
It's an easy, inexpensive way to quickly see a bit of one of the most famous parts of NYC without any trouble. To leave, (depending on which garage exit you use), either take a Right 41st street, or a left on 42nd and drive two blocks west until you hit the Joe Dimaggio Highway (it's Rt. 9a aka the West River Highway)... take a right (North) and follow until you hit I-95 and be on your merry way.
Again, it's simple if you're interested. The garage is part of a major transportation center in NYC, so it's very well policed and monitored. The garage itself has a bit of history as it was the filming location for a major fight scene towards the end of the Bourne Ultimatum.
Just thought I'd throw it in there. Most people try to avoid NYC as much as possible, but I guess I'm different. Enjoy your drive, regardless and I hope you have a fun, safe trip.
