Dover, Maine
I am considering a travel nursing assignment in Dover Me. beginning in Jan. 2009. I would appreciate any information about the area such as rentals, weather(I'm from Fla.), things to do, etc.

I've been here for over a month now and I'm from California. I have seen more of a mix of weather in that time than I have in ten years back there.
Craigslist is a good place to start for rentals. The Piscataquis Observer, Bangor Daily News, The Dexter Gazzette and The Rolling Thunder from Newport are all local daily or weekly papers.
I was just talking to a friend while having dinner on Maine Street last Sunday about the traveling nurses. He used to rent to them at one time and I've done relocation work with same in California for over 30 years now.
Dover has things to do. I don't know what things you like to do. More outdoor stuff than you can think of. And more indoor stuff than you can probably think of too.

Mayo Regional in Dover is a fine little hospital. I had my shoulder rebuilt there. It was ruined and they did a fine job. I have 100% range of motion and 100% strength. They are very professional, thorough and have a high regard for their patients. I agree with all the posts above so won't elaborate on them.
Great area good, friendly honest people and a wild variety of things to do.
By the way. I am NEVER going to help anybody set the ridge pole up on a log home again. I'm not 29 any more and that proved it to me.

I lived in Dover-Foxcroft for about 5 years, and liked it up there. Close to lakes and mountains. A cute downtown, and close enough to Bangor for shopping. I liked that whenever we went somewhere we always saw people we knew. Summers are great up there...definately a ton of snow in the winter. Great snowmobiling.

Wait... are we talking about Dover-Foxcroft, or the Dover on the Mid-Coast not far from Wiscassett, Boothbay, etc?

The Dover in Boothbay is a neighborhood, not a town. It's like the Webster in Old town. It's a neighborhood. The town of Webster is just north of Springfield.
Many people in the Dover-Foxcroft area when asked where they live will still refer to the original towns of Dover and Foxcroft before they merged.

Thanks so much for all of the replies! I was referring to Dover-Foxcroft, ME. I accepted the position @ Mayo Regional (Labor & Delivery)....The nurse manager was so friendly! I have been to the north coastal area of Maine (Washington County) during the end of Sept., beginning of Oct., for several years. Just have never experienced the central Maine winter! My contract starts on Jan. 12th., and will last for 13 weeks. Trying to figure out everything I can do while there. Does anyone know of a place that rents snow mobiles?
RMoore....glad to hear you are enjoying your relocation from California....feel your "kindred" spirit in weather!
Thanks again!
