Default Moose questions

I know it sounds touristy, but I want to see a moose! When I was a kid we had a Moose go through the sheep pasture and it was amazing. I want my kids to see one live too- not in a Zoo. You know how those bird people have sites where you can find out where the rare red-footed booby is nesting? Does anyone know if they have a wildlife one? Yes, it's silly, but...

"Cool as a moose" is my 17 yo daughter's favorite wardrobe stuff this year - but I keep reminding her that they aren't really all that cool. In Anchorage,
we had them in our back yard occasionally and they are, generally speaking,
not very happy campers by nature. I once saw one sort of attacking a truck in a parking lot at Alyeska coming back from skiing. Guess it didn't like the way it was was parked. FWIW...they take nice photos, though (HaHa).

I saw a bunch different times on Rt 2 and going to Island Falls from Sherman. DW and I are kind of moose repellant. Comes in handy on drives down the airline.

Going North on Route 15 toward Greenville, there is a bog right by the DOT salt/sandpile in Shirley on the left. More often than not we spot moose there. It's a very common occurrence to see cars all pulled over on the side of the road taking pictures during spring, summer or fall. Don't know about winter, try not to travel there in winter. One day we spotted 6 moose on our way back from Greenville. Don't recommend travel through there at night if you can help it.

Just thought of a funny story. We had friends come to Maine to visit that had never been here before. They of course wanted to have a moose sighting so we all take off in their rental car up to Moosehead Lake. On the way there, DH and I spot a moose right up on the road ahead of us. Our friend who is driving starts laughing and says "oh that's really funny, look where they put that fake moose for the tourists to see." We only had seconds to convince him it was real and he should start braking. Him and his wife let out a scream when they realized it was real...and thankfully got stopped just in time!
