Those big bass tourneys pay out some pretty big prizes! New bass boats, new pick ups, all locally in Maine. There are many bass clubs with many members in Maine. But, nope we most definitely won't be seeing Maineah at any of them. To each his own.

Like I said before...Bass ARE fun to catch. We have a pond full of big ones right behind the house! I just don't go for people putting them in deep clean lakes. Too many lakes have been ruined by someone introducing bass, northern pike or other types of aggressive warm water fish into a lake because THEY think it would be nice to catch them. Once they get established there go the good game fish.
Enough about bass! Lets talk about Yellow Perch! Now there's a trash fish that's fun to catch. Watch the spines!

We used to have fun slamming white perch schoolies in a Downeast pond where family had a camp. The kids had a blast. DH is an avid fly fisherman from his youth, but he still says it's a blast to get into a bunch of black crappy. I don't think either are bad eating.
Now I'm really hungry for some smelt! I never got into any fresh shrimp this season, so I'm due.

We jacked up the shack yesterday in anticipation of the big snow storm. Good thing too as we got over a foot of nice fluffy snow. A smelt shack needs to be raised now and then as snow accumulates on the ice. The weight of the snow makes the ice sink a little and if you do not raise your ice shack it will eventually flood the inside as it will sit lower than the ice. All that is necessary is to lift the corners and stick a 2x4 or two under the shack then shovel snow around the shack to "bank it" and cut off the wind.
If you fail to do this the shack will flood, freeze and you will have 6" or more of ice in the shack rendering it useless and impossible to use until spring thaws it all out. Many "newbies" learn this lesson the hard way. We will celebrate MLK Jr. Day tomorrow fishing for smelts!

That's good info! Hence why you made one that is lightweight and easily movable! Now tell everybody what the daily fine is for somebody that leaves their shacks out so long that they sink to the bottom of the river.
As well as how many people really do that. And why it's necessary legally to have your name written on the side of your shack. (oh i guess that's self explanatory)
