Unless I am reading it wrong - in the aggregate means total among those people fishing. 5 fish total - period. If I am reading it wrong, then someone needs to show me what the actual rules are.
It is frusterating when I go into the outdoors to hunt or fish and find nothing because other people have taken over the legal limit and decimated the population.

The aggregate means total fish. Each person is allowed 5 total fish which includes salmon trout and togue. Meaning you can have any combination of the mentioned fish, as long as the aggregate or "total" is not more than 5 fish. It does NOT mean 5 salmon, 5 trout, and 5 togue.
Each area has their own specific rules regarding how many of each fish may be taken.
Daily Species Daily Bag and Possession Limit
Landlocked Salmon 2
Rainbow Trout 2
Togue (Lake Trout 2
Brown Trout 2
Brook Trout (including Splake) 5 *ds in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Waldo, and York counties: The daily bag limit on brook trout is 2 fish.
If you read further down the link you sent, it becomes quite clear what aggregate means.
Example 1: North Gorham Pond, Windham, Gorham. B, Daily bag limit on landlocked salmon and trout: 1 fish in the aggregate.
Example 2: Cold Stream Pond, Enfield, Lowell, and Lincoln. B, S-13, S-19, S-22, Daily bag limit on togue: 5 fish. Minimum length limit on togue: 14 inches. Closed to night fishing. 8 fish aggregate (1 landlocked salmon, 5 togue, 2 brook trout).
Hope this helps.

Thanks Ranger, that's right down the road from me! I love the pics you posted of ice fishing and hockey. Sometimes I get a little antsy out there, good idea to bring skates. Hope I remember to skate AROUND the holes. Although one time I decided to drive the ATV back to the camp and got into some soft snow where it wasn't packed down on the lake. About 3 snowmobilers saw I was stuck and raced over to my rescue. Those kids had a blast rocking and revving the ATV right out of where I was stuck. Kids, gotta love 'em! It IS fun out there in the winter!

I too have been fishing in maine over 40 years. We have always taken the rule to mean 5 fish total among people fishing. Chiisai explaination makes sense, but it could still be taken to mean total of people fishing, not total fish per person. Interesting how written laws can be interpreted differently by different people.

Perhaps some - I will be contacting a forest ranger for clarification. We have always taken aggregate to mean total fish caught that day. Example 2 isn't clear. It could be per person or per fishing excursion.
