Ranger,

Those are really nice photos!
Nothing like a day on the ice for family fun. We used to go all the time. Hotdogs on the grill, hot chocolate(or maybe a little blackberry brandy) a round of ice golf with a tennis ball, perhaps punt the perch, if we were in shore too close. We used to take a couple of model rockets to fly on calm days...that really keeps the kids busy! Some kind of fun now I'll tell ya!

It's not lake fishing but we put our smelt shack on January 3rd.
First night we did pretty well (133) but after that it's gone steadily down hill and since the big full moon it's been pretty dead. We're hoping it will pick up as the tides settle down.

My grandfather was from Amity and used to take me ice fishin on east grand when I was a kid. It used to be a great lake for catching land locks and lake trout. We used to catch some big ones, but I haven't been there in close to 30 years.

We caught 36 smelts lastnight. No great shakes but enough to keep you interested. It will make a nice couple of meals for my buddy and his girlfriend. I'm going again tonight. I'll let you know how I do. I know you're all on the edge of your seats!
