Default New Coffee Shop?

VASSALBORO, Maine -- A proposed topless coffee shop may receive a dressing down from some residents of rural Vassalboro.

The town, which borders Augusta, is set to take on the matter at a planning board meeting scheduled Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The proposed topless coffee shop would take over the former Mac Daddy's Pub at the Fat Cat Grille along busy Route 3. What used to be the Grand View Motel, an Ellsworth businessman hopes customers will come inside for a view.

I saw this on the news this morning. P/B can't stop it just because of the nudity. Kind of a cool idea but NIMBY.

I heard about it last night on ABC news.

I have heard of topless donut shops before, so why not?

Topless coffee shop...in Vassalboro???????????????????????? Yikes. I can't imagine the residents would let this pass without significant protest, but you never know.

Not a thing they can do from azoning standpoint. And protesting doesn't do squat. Maybe in court but then they have to spend money. Don't think so.

Assuming that Vassalboro, like most towns, has to get approval from abutting neighbors as well as the abutters to the abutters, it can be stopped. Plenty of towns have ganged up on their town councils to stop disreputable businesses from coming in. Heck, if small towns can block Wal-Mart they can certainly block some sleeze who wants to open a topless coffee shop.

I say go for it. The state needs businesses to move in. It will employ people and provide entertainment. If you don't like it - don't stop and go in. You see almost as much skin going to OOB in the summer, and these employees will at least be decent looking. It should be a crime for a 300 pound person to walk around in public in a speedo.
