Default its snowing...

the kids will be coming home soon from school. i'm enjoying a cup of tea and some peace and quiet before they get here. so tell me. how many of you ran out to the grocery store last night or this morning?and did you really need something?
i do think that is one of the funniest things about us. most everyone i know has a freezer and a pantry stocked enough to last a month or two, not to mention 4x4's, snowmobiles and/or atvs, yet we all run out to the grocery store as soon as we here a storm is coming as if its the next storm of the century.

I didn't but I should have picked up milk while I was out this morning. We did pick up the snowblower. I don't think our kids will get out early. It just started and they're out in three hours. No practices tonight though so we'll have a quiet evening.

I have to boil ground chicken for a geriatric dog's special diet....and was out of chicken so there was nothing to be done but to go out and buy several packages....2 in the freezer and one for todays breakfast! The store was pretty quiet last evening around 5:30.....sometimes its a real mad house before a storm.

The trails are groomed as far as getting set, but with the lack of snow the past couple weeks, I don't think the groomers have been out making that 70 mph blanket you might be used to. Supposed to get up to 8 inches today so by weekend all should be real good. The trails just need some snow so they can groom then smooth. Haven't seen the large number of sleds at the motels yet, but if there is snow south of Houlton sometimes it's later before the crowds arrive. The old rail beds north of town are always good.

I didn't make a special trip out... yesterday was our monthly "big" shopping trip in Bangor. But I had forgotten we were almost out of fluid milk, so when I was out earlier (this was rabies shot clinic day here in Corinth, so I had planned to take the dog for her shot, get her legal here in Cornith, and drop some other paper work at town hall when I was there, an errand for K. Also mailed the extra mistletoe from my bulk order to a friend in UT, and tried to get the inspection on the car to complete our "legal in Maine" transformation, but they were backed up so I made an 8 AM appt for tomorrow) I stopped at Hannifords and got milk. Store seemed normal...

And actually, now that I have been working in the little store down the road through a few storms and storm warnings, I think I'd have to say I see less panic buying at the little country store than I did in the town markets in NC when foul weather was predicted. There, the "bread and milk" crowd went into overtime. Here, most that I have seen is a run on our pizza and sandwiches when power was out for a few hours and the kids had a snow day. Oh, we always have the "milk and Allens" bunch, but they seem to pretty much be the usual suspects, just topping off the supply.

My DW and I used to find this funny. During our time in NJ people would be out in hords at the grocery store even if there was an inch of snow forcast.

I used to laugh at all the folks who would rush to the store when snow was predicted.
I loved to mention to my dd or dh about the impending blizzard and how people better stock up. Its amazing to see what people will buy. I can understand milk or bread, but tv dinners????

LOL! After years of "rushing to the store" to pick up impending hurricane supplies, I've become some what of a pro at it, but TV dinners would NEVER be on that list!

We have to prepare for no fuel, no available food, no drinkable water, no electricity and no way to cook unless we have a propane camp stove. We have to have enough non-perishable food to last 10 days+.

I'm confident we can weather a good snow storm.
