When I get it into a spread sheet I'll see if I can paste it here. Wow have seeds gone up in price. I expect to pay a third more this year. Seedling prices might have to go up a quartr a six pack unless I can find another way to make up the difference. Most of my order goes to Fedco.

I did my tree order through Fedco, the deadline was a couple months ago. I think that I discussed that order here on CD at the time.

Last year when I was picking up my trees, I wandered through the FEDCO warehouse and picked up a bunch of seeds from a shopping list that B had made.

2 years ago we tried some sugar beets, but had no luck with them.

Has anyone else tried sugar beets?

We got our seed from a Canadian company.

Oh gosh! When do you start planting? Are we going to be able to get settled in, find a tiller and get seeds in the ground early enough? I was REALLY hoping to have a garden this year.

Relax winter is for catalog browsing.

Greenhouses get started early.

Otherwise wait until the soil gets above 45 degrees [Memorial day weekend].

This last year our beans were sprouting within the pods, it was too wet. But we will do beans again.

And red beets.

What about Burdock? Anyone?

The ground will still be frozen when you get here. I order early because I need to make sure I get specific varieties my customers know, and because I'll be starting greenhouse tomatoes, leek and onion seeds next month. I'll also be sowing in bare spots in the four season greenhouses next month. I have tillers. If there's already a garden space you'll be all set. Otherwise, there are folks with tractors who'll come turn it over for you the first year.

Early Wonder Tall Top for greens and Detroit Dark Red Short Top for roots. When the EWTT's aren't as good as I need them to be I stop cutting greens and start harvesting roots for pickled beets. Note - EWTT is my biggest money maker per square foot of garden space.

Have you ever driven by a farm and seen a middle aged woman swinging a Swedish ax at burdock and yelling "Die you ***! Die!"? That was me. I grow it but not on purpose. The livestock brought it up from the back five acres and dropped in the front pasture. That pasture what is now market garden.

That is what folks say about horse radish too. We planted horse radish in a half drum, so it is contained. And hopefully will not invade everywhere.

When I dumped out the drum this past fall, we were amazed at how long the roots were. If they had not been in a drum, they surely would have spread out in a 20 foot radius in one summer.

Carrots? what about carrots?

We did carrots, but they always look goofy.
