Default honeymoon in maine?

My fiancee and I are getting married in May near Philadelphia. We have talked about several honeymoon destinations including: Caribbean, Southwestern US / Grand Canyon, the Outer Banks (N.C.), and Maine.

We have talked about a trip to Maine for years, and the honeymoon seems like a perfect opportunity. The problem is that neither of us have ever been anywhere near Maine and are clueless about where to go, but by reading other posts, I am getting the sense that Bar Harbor and Acadia are both beautiful destinations.

Does anyone have any suggestions for honeymoon destinations in Maine? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I gota say this...Route 1 does go past Ellsorth, no need to go straight up Rt 3 to Bar Harbor. Whils B/H IS a beautiful place with Acadia most out of staters don't look beyond it. Asa matter of fact I think I would start my Maine trip just abouve Freeport. Take Rt. 1 all the way up the coast spending a day in Boothbay Harbor (and Steam Town) hit Camden/Rockland, Eastport, of course for the scenery and Shackford Head, then go over the border at Calais and go to St. John and Reversing Falls. Too many people in Bar Harbor for my liking. We simply go to Acadia and Cadillac.

My daughter lives out of state and decided to have a destination wedding in Maine. She chose Boothbay Harbor and had a memorable wedding. Ever since she was little, we spent alot of our time in the Bar Harbor region and she had never even been to Boothbay until we made a trip together once. She also likes Camden. A very pretty harbor.

If you want a coastal honeymoon I don't think you could go wrong with anywhere along the coast. I personally enjoyed Ogunquit/Wells area (Perkins Cove was very romantic--sand beach and rock bound coast along with fun shopping.) But I live 5 miles across bay from Bar Harbor and Acadia so I am probably a little biased on my area. There are many GREAT places all up and down the coast. I hope you get lucky to find the one that speaks to you!

My choice would be Monhegan Island. Not much nightlife - but drop dead scenery!
