There isn't much that comes from petrol that can't be made from stuff you can grow, soybeans, peanuts, biomass. Leaves a smaller hole in the ground, too.

Some of the components within your own computer might disagree with you on that.

The wind doesn't blow all the time. It may not be blowing hard enough to sustain the demand... Wind is but one part of our probable energy needs. There will always have to be a back up.

My dad grew up in TX in the thirties. Some of the first plastics were made from corn cobs before oil was considered "plentiful".

We may not supplant all petroleum uses but to my mind it makes more sense to rely on resources you can replenish than wait for another million or so years for an ecological die off .

No, no, no! I do not want to move home, vacation at the coast and, if lucky, take the boat out only to find those ugly oil platforms blocking my view.

Wind, solar & water are the way to go. We plan to have a windmill at our future house, once we get to the point where we know we will be staying permanently, as well as solar panels.

Food grade oils are rendered from only certain parts of a plant and have to meet FDA requirements for consumption. Industrial grade oil can be rendered from any biomass, i.e. roots, stalks, nuts, etc.

That must be quite a boat you've got there!

I'm thinking you'd be hard pressed to find one blocking your view.
