I wouldn't want to live without my cell. Having a 20 year old who has several irons in the fire, it seems to help keep us in touch. DH would just as soon get rid of his and we will most likely not renew his when our contract is up next April.

Has Digital Communication Improved Your Life
Well, as an avid poster to this website, I would say that yes digital communication has improved my life. I own an amazing Samsung cell phone that all but dials the calls for me and we are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our new HP laptop. This computer I am using now is so old it barely keeps up with the rate of speed at which I can type...I am well over 100 wpm and that is no lie after 30+ years as a Senior Admin. I have become a speed demon on the keyboards.
Other than the obvious, my cell phone helps me when it comes to making calls to people who just don't know when to STOP talking...I text them. This website has made me understand that there are people EVERYWHERE with issues and nice people from corner to corner of the map. One poster was asking about whether or not there were DUMB people in New Hampshire because where she lived she felt the people were not so bright..how shallow but again it did teach me something. Everything on here is a lesson if you let it be.
So.........Yes, yes and yes I would say digital communication has vastly improved my life.

Net Positive
I think it's a net positive although I don't really like to talk on the phone much. I wouldn't however, trade more privacy for the security that comes with cell phones. I've had juvenile-onset diabetes for most of my 50-plus years, and I've used digital tech in ways that have saved my life many times over, so I feel blessed by it.
I also think that Caller I.D. is the single greatest thing since sliced bread! Remember that loud obnoxious ring of the corded landline phone when you couldn't decide whether or not to answer it?
P.S. I also have an 18 yo and the value of being in touch via cell is priceless.

Dig comm has improved my life but I sometime long for the old days when no one could get in touch with me for hours or days at a time.
My son is now 20 and is probably on his sixth cell phone. I got one for him before high school. It made it easy for me to keep in touch and keep tabs on him. Big Brother (father) watching.

Well, consider me in the minority for those my age. I'm 22 years old and am still adamantly resisting the cell phone trend. The land line didn't stop working because of cell phones, and I have no desire to be accessible to anyone.

You are not alone! I'm older, but still remain "unleashed."
My son has one that sits on top of his dresser collecting dust for the most part.

Couldn't agree more with the Caller I.D. Especially during election time!

Well I guess I'm firmly entrenched in today's rapid fire communications trend. I relish the contact to the world but I can't say I like to be accessible to everyone at anytime. The cell phone has a schedule so it is off 3 days a week unless needed.
This weekend the bank atm ate my new debit card as I attempted to activate it, which means I can't change my cell phone payment to that account which means my cell phone is OFF because I ran out of minutes.
Oi veh!!

With my cell, I get to talk to my family more than I could afford to without it. With free minutes on weekends and to other people who have the same cell provider, and that circle calling feature, I talk to my sister and my kids and my friends whenever and for however long I want. That won't change much when we move. They have service up there and we'll be able to keep our numbers and stay in touch. My daughter freaks if we don't check in when we're on the road.
