Outbuilding wood stove?
I'm looking to put a wood stove in my outbuilding.
I spoke to someone who does flues for a living and they mentioned that it is against code. ( Apparently there is a play in words between garage, workshop, shed etc. , so I'll say outbuilding )
I'm not the sharpest banana in the bag of nails , but I know enough not to keep flammable or combustible materials in this enviorment.
( The plans on repairing my gasoline tanker in there just went out the window )
Anyway the 'flue poeple' refused to install one in my building.
Any thoughts from the crowd?
Thanks,
CS

I would call the city, county or town and find out what code is and go from there. You may need and l&i inspection as well if you want insurance. Good Luck

There are many wood stoves in garages, workshops and "out buildings" in Maine. I have never seen any code against wood stoves, especially in metal buildings. You just need adequate clearance between the stove and a combustible wall. Get somebody else to install the chimney.

I agree that it must be a local thing.
I have a woodstove in our house. I have seen stoves inside many different structures.
If would have to be an issue with clearances I would guess.
BTW: 'Flue people' ???
Is that what they are called?

Thanks again~!

I don't believe it is a "code" thing at all. I cannot install a woodstove in any outbuilding on my property, but it has nothing to do with building codes; my homeowners insurance will not allow it. I think you will find that is what the person is referring to.
Check with your homeowners insurance and you may, or may not be able to install one.

I have one too. Most garages here have wood stoves and everybody has homeowner's insurance.
