Everybody who wants to be included is included. There is a great article in today's Bangor Daily News by Sarah Smiley titled, "How One Falls in Love with a Place". It sums up the sentiments of many who post here. For those who get the BDN and have not read it yet, it is on Page B 1. You can find it on the web here:

Maine is a blue state. They voted for Gore. They voted for Kerry. They even voted for Obama and we sure have change. They have a Kucinich contingent. The governor and both houses of our legislature are Democrats. They have a spending addiction that makes us have the highest per capita tax burden in the entire nation.

That said, there are many conservative towns with responsible town budgets and good schools. You just need to inquire so you'll find your niche. My town has no zoning. Build what you want, when and where you want.

Some towns are highly restrictive and actively discourage newcomers because they don't want new kids in their schools. You just need to inquire.

Born and raised here and I'm really not a weather whiner but when the high temp at the end of March is hovering at 30 and the wind blows it makes one pause. The mud's so deep on our road we never know if we'll make it all the way in. There's still three feet of snow on the boat. I went home at lunch time and put on wool socks and another sweater. Some years the time between that last big snow/freeze and first warm breeze seems interminable and this is one of those years. Mainers have lots of stamina, we need it sometimes. Glass of red wine and a fire in the stove helps afer a long day . Just hate that remedy in April LOL
