Default SAD 49 thinking of moving to the area, but heard the school system is not good - opinions?

Thinking of moving to the Benton/Fairfield area. What are your honest opinions on the school system? Particularly the middle and high school?

The Lawrence school system has a bad reputation, but it is unfounded. A lot of the negative sentiment centers around further education rates. While our rates are slightly lower than our neighbors, it is not because of the quality of education - rather, it is because many students who graduate go straight to work on the family farm and than later attend college (or not at all). This district has a high percentage of farm families, and that skews the numbers. Lawrence offers a wide range of options for students. Students can take college level courses to earn college and high school credit as seniors. Athletics are also a very positive part of the Lawrence experience. And finally, LHS has a good focus on the arts, with the state of the art Williamson Center for the performing arts. I graduated in 1997 and was well prepared for college, where I ended up earning my MBA.

I get the impression that they are talking about Lawrence High School. I'm not sure where it is, but I thought that it was in/near Waterville.?

Is there a Lawrence Maine too or is that just the name of the school. There is no listing for Lawrence, Maine in Delorme's Maine Atlas. I assume it's just the name of the school like Greely High school is the name of the Cumberland/North Yarmouth High School?

The Lawrence Bulldogs are a force to be reckoned with on the gridiron. I believe they are in Fairfield. Here is an article from last year and I think they are fielding a good team this year.
