Hello i live in Bangor, Maine. Where i live the heat in included in the rent so the landlord controls the heat. In fact the heat control is not even in the apartment. its looked in a room that only the landlord can get to. What i want to know is are there dates the landlord has to keep it on. and if so what is the date when he can shut it off. Also if anyone knows along with the heat he has the fuseboxies locked up also is this something he can do?

What is in your lease? That's important, because if you've signed it, you've agreed.

Meet with the landlord. Explain that the apartment is cold and ask him to turn up the heat.

If he refuses then he is voiding the lease. Failure to provide heat when it is stipulated in the lease, I believe is called "conscriptive eviction". It is actionable, if you wish to hire an attorney, and you might be able to sue for damages.

A landlord who pays for heat cannot refuse to provide it, regardless of what month he might "think" heat is needed.

DO not put up with being cold.

No dates for when the heat will be turned on? hmmm....

Well, he should have dated it, both for you and him. I believe there is no solid date, that the date would have to be considered reasonable in some way. I know there are dates for electric company shut-offs. You could always call and speak to your landlord directly.
