Default Ct bank now owns Merrill bank and Maine Savings and Trust
I was in Stop and Shop today and the United Peoples Bank that has a branch located in the store had a sign that they now own Merrill Bank and Maine Bank and Trust. I wasn't sure if this was due to saving the banks from failure similar to Wachovia being taken over by Wells Fargo. United Peoples Bank is based out of CT. I remember Merrill being a very popular local bank growing up in Bangor and one of the few that had remained independent.
