Default Drive Time - Calais to Ellsworth via Route 1

Starting to plan a trip this summer and I can't wait!
Going to drive from Vermont to St. John, NB to visit friends. Then we'd like to head to Bar Harbor. Route 1 from Calais to Ellsworth is the last section of coastal Route 1 that I have yet to travel. What is the drive time from Calais to Ellsworth via Route 1? Calais to St. John? Any good lunch spots to stop at along the way?
Thanks!

I'd guess about 2.5 hours. Lunch stops.... let's see--depending on what time you have lunch,

The New Friendly Restaurant in Perry
The Bluebird in Machias
shoot, there's a place in Columbia Falls on the left next to the ambulance station--but I can't remember the name--excellent homemade onion rings though, it used to be "Perry's"
Oh, in Milbridge there's a little take-out place on the corner heading out of town toward Ellsworth. Don't remember the name, but good lobster rolls.
Ruth and Whimpy's in Hancock, just outside Ellsworth. Hopefully it will still be there, it's for sale

Helens in Ellsworth and Machias. Red Barn in Milbridge if it ever opens again. St John is about an hour from Calais isn't it? DW & I like strolling the town and the old cemetary. And the Ped-way. I want to go back and walk the waterfront and go to the fort. Too caold and wet last Nov.

The bus schedule shows 2 hrs 55 mins from Calais to Ellsworth. It will be quicker in a car. I asked a friend who has relatives in St. John and she said about an hour from Calais.

2.5 hours sounds about right. On Route 1, closer to Ellsworth for lunch there is Chester Pike's in Sullivan on the right just before the Rt. 185 turnoff. Open for breakfast and lunch until 2:00, but closed on Monday's all day...in fact, better check on all the others too. The Galley on the left at the Sullivan-Hancock bridge for good pizza. Jordan's Snack Bar in Ellsworth on the right, picnic tables, playground, and vintage car shows. Helen's on the left, really good desserts. You would miss the last two if you were to take the short cut to Bar Harbor (left on Mud Creek Road in Hancock) and be able to cut off a few miles and avoid the Ellsworth traffic.

Helen's in Ellsworth was great a couple of weeks ago. Shrimp, Lobster and Salmon dishes were just excellent! It was nearly exactly 2.5 hours from Calais on Rt. 1 considering the slow pace on the not so great road, but the views are well worth the slow trip!
