Question What's blossoming in your yard?

I've been anxiously waiting to hear for all of your spring blossom sightings, I have a few favorite flowers that I always love to see each spring.

Has anybody seen any Forsythia in bloom yet or is it still too early?

Lilac's are another favorite of everyone, although we usually don't see them until later in May, are there any signs of them in the southern part of the state?

Who has daffodils up yet and does anybody still plant crocuses? Tulips?

One of my all time favorites is your native wild Lupines in the fields... but I guess that won't happen til June sometime for Maine. I have them by seed here on the Cape and that's about when they burst open... gorgeous up north though.

I'm just seeing my hydrangeas and peonies poking leaves and shoots out... spring IS really here! Yahooooooo!!!

I have daffodils that I planted last fall up and in bud ; some in town are fully out like Wordsworth's ode. I have crocus and the little tiny woodland grape hyacynth. Viola's wintered over and were blooming as the snow receded. I have pulmaneria almost ready to bloom; day lilies are up and looking "thrifty"; I notice the sedum "stone crop" is pushing thru and garden flocks are growing vigorously as well as the sea moss, and coreopsis (not blooming mind you but growing with vigor). Evening primrose has spread nicely in the little garden I interplanted it with blue fescue grass. The red twig dogwood is scarlet. It was at least 3 weeks ago that the yellow witch hazel was in bloom. I replanted my rosemary bush back outside.....it says on line they can take it to -3 degrees.....I don't 'spect we will see that this spring.

I see signs of life in the lilac and magnolia....but I also see that I planted my lilac hedge too close to the road so they got damaged by the snow banks being pushed over them.

Spring is definately coming in!

Only thing so far is bearded iris starting to show some green. But by the looks of these guys my veggies are going to take a hit this year. Dang things are almost tame and the neighbors feed them every so often. Heck, the whole island feeds them; just not in my back yard. We had 9 more the last few nights.

Default What's blossoming in your yard?

As you can see, I am in Connecticut, so we are a tad ahead of Maine when it comes to flowers. Our forsythia is in full bloom, lilacs are budding and daffodils are out full force. My grass already needs cutting and I have seen some pesky dandelions out there already.

If you want a REAL big treat that will make you feel like Spring, go to the Meriden Connectcut website and check out the annual daffodil festival news. There is a park very near to where we live and there are over 600,000 daffodils in full bloom all around the lake, throughout the wooded areas and all along the edges of the parking lots, playground..it is a wonder to behold..and they smell so absolutely incredible. Check out the sight. The festival is April 24th weekend. This past weekend, they had all kinds of events going on and actually allowed parking in the park which is a rarity considering the number of folks down here who go to the fest in general.

Sending some Spring up your way...........................CP

I have not had anything here in Corinth except "kittywillows" (thanks, msina!) -- and today I discovered that the miniature "forest" in our NE corner is pretty much comprised of them, too -- some of which are past prime and some are just starting to show the catkins, but on my walkaround this morning I see one of the two crocus that came up is showing a full bud. I'll expect to see the flower later today or tomorrow at the latest.

But that's it for now.. though I do have seedling spinach showing.

Planting today, more of the "as early as the ground can be worked" crops, onions and taters.
