No, we didn't. I replied: You loved them.

K replied: I'm trying to eat them now but they look like caterpillars.

I replied: You like them with vinegar. (She loves vinegar.)

K replied: We put vinegar on them but they look too gross.

I replied: One bite and you'll remember how much you love them.

K replied: I took one bite and thought I was chewing a bug!

I replied: But was it good?

K replied: Ya, but I can't eat them. They look like caterpillars.

I replied: I lied. You'd never eaten them. I love you!

I'm waiting for my phone to ring now.
Nice... that just made me laugh the hardest I've laughed since, oh, Saturday??? lol

Thanks folks for the DMs and for the condolences expressed in the 'Forum Party" thread.

My step-father fell asleep, then 2 weeks later my mother fell asleep.

They were both becoming elderly having been born during the 1920s, and have had increasing health issues for the past few years. They were both in denial of their own mortality and as such left no instructions for how to handle their burials.

There was a public wake for my Step-father, he was cremated and arrangements have been made for him to receive a veterans ceremony at the end of June.

I was notified of my mother's passing the morning of the Dysarts' luncheon, and later learned that she will be cremated privately. The family will get together in June for a memorial to honour both of them [and have a BBQ]. And then decide what to do with their remains.

So I will not be traveling out to California at this time. Rather I plan to go there at the end of June.

Thank you all for your concerns.

I would wish to use this as a reminder to everyone, to have a written will, and to tell your family how you wish to be handled.

My eldest sister had a stroke [which only her husband and daughters knew about] in her recovery she wrote out exactly what she wanted. A script to follow; she put together a slide show of her life, showing her with each of her parents, her siblings, nursing school, her husband, and raising each of her daughters. She had her daughters playing the piano and organ during the slide show [she and her daughters all play piano, organ and harp], and each of her brothers scripted as her pallbearers. While her parents and siblings did not know of her health issues; she planned out her entire ceremony and she included all of us. When she had her second stroke, she fell asleep and her plans were carried out precisely.

None of us like to think of our morality. However I assure you that it is very much likely that each of us will one day fall asleep. So it would benefit each of our families to have our wishes made known.

My eldest sister did this and it was of great benefit. My step-father and mother did not do this, and it is awkward.

I see an importance to planning our own resting place, I hope that each of you likewise see how important this is.

May God bless us all.

Your family is in my thoughts right now Forrest.

And very wise words about having all your wishes be known and having a will!

I'm sorry for both losses, Forest. That's a lot of heartache in a short time.
