Am I the only one thinking this is being blown way out of proportion? I have read that there are more than 20,000 deaths each year in the US due to flu and its related diseases. There have been none due to this swine flu yet.

The conspiracy theorist in my thinks this is being used to push an agenda.....perhaps national health care and bigger government?

Of course baldy needs to say something - like reminding people to stay home when sick - because people expect him too and many are too dumb to use common sense and stay home if/when they get sick.

No, you're not the only one. I think that way everytime we are nagged ad nauseum via PSA's to get our flu shot. It's common sense. If it works for you then you should get it. It's not the message that gets me as much as the nagging. The year before last was a horror show with flu season as the vaccine strain was a miss that year. There's no question that the flu can kill immune compromised people (and the Swine flu is no different in that regard) but personally, I'm just plain tired of being nagged to use common sense and stay home when I'm sick - I know to stay home. I will say that I'm fortunate to have a job where staying home is encouraged.

And I'm sure there will be many more that go undiagnosed as well. Such is the nature of viruses. Some get more press than others, but many other viruses kill people as well.

Just as a random thought: I think that people should be informed, the cases should be tracked and dealt with expediently; however, until such a time when it becomes more apparent that we have a major issue on our hands, we should probably not panic. IMHO, panic will simply increase stress and result in a higher rate of cardiac issues and admissions.

Wow. So much cynicism and arm-chair quarterbacking over an attempt to keep people healthy. Perhaps if you wanted the position you should have run for governor.

I don't think that we can count intelligence as cynicism. How many people die every day from cancer? This is a virus. I'm going to continue to do what I all ready do for my health and not panic because 40 people out of the millions in the US have contracted this virus.

Well, I don't know if you're referring to my post, but if you are, I'll speak for myself by saying that I'm by no means "arm-chair quarterbacking" or trying to be cynical. I'm trying to be realistic. In other words, I don't think people should be working themselves into a tizzy quite yet. The health officials are doing what they are supposed to be doing and that is a good thing IMO. I certainly don't mean to portray that it's my way or the highway.

I'm all for keeping people healthy, but I'm also all for keeping things calm.

I just found this link: Remember SARS? http://health.msn.com/health-topics/...7462&gt1=31036

I was referring to "conspiracy theorists" and the concept of someone who feels personally "nagged" by public service announcements.
