We are building our home in the Bangor area but currently live in Europe so to keep from getting hit with all the international roaming charges, I bought a tracfone about a year ago. Have had no issues with coverage in the Bangor area and areas right around. Soon as the plane lands in the US, I just turn on my tracfone and it keeps me connected.

Cell phone coverage in and around Bangor is great. I never have any issues up in that area. Is there a certain area around Bangor that you are looking at?

Ideally we would like to be in Orono (in theory, haven't actually visited yet, but we are planning it) but are also looking at Hampden, Winterport, or other areas within 20 miles of Orono with excellent schools.

Just about all cell phones work in Bangor because of the international airport. Imagine users' dismay when coverage by such carriers as Sprint disappear when they get 5 miles from the airport.

Verizon has bought Unicel and Verizon will be using both the old Unicel towers and US Cellular towers from 8 AM on May 17 on. That sure sounds good to me. We just got a new pair of Verizon phones. I'll keep the old US Cellular phone for a while, but I already use the Unicel/Verizon phone 90% of the time.

Default Never have had a problem

I have used Unicel for several years with no problems - they are now going to be "Verizon" so hope that doesn't change the good service. You mentioned living in Orono. There isn't much there except for the University. The downtown is very small and could stand some revitilizing.

Well, the university would be the attraction - I work in academia now and would like to continue. With all needed amenities easily accessible in Bangor I actually like the appeal of a small town.

Anybody out there at UMaine need a part-time statistician?

Default Unicel sucks

I use to use unicel didnt have great coverage. I had a smart pay plan with $64.48 credit on it (money i payed) the verison bought unicel and told me the plan would cost me a $1 a day more with the money i already payed . without any notice lol they said they sent my a text message. I told them that wasnt the deal we had . I wanted a refund. I was told by them my only recourse was leagal action . What great customer service . Any way i found a a track phone with just 10 cents a minute with a lot better coverage. It would be nice if they would have honered thier deal they had wih me .Aynway guess i had to take leagal action if i want my money back.
