Default Anyone remember Hugo's in Kittery?

I grew up in Portsmouth, NH, in the late 1950s and the 1960s. Does anyone remember Hugo's in Kittery, just over the bridge from downtown Portsmouth?

Hi. Yes, I will never forget Hugo's! I grew up across the street from Hugo's, on Badger's Island. The constant smell of pepper steaks in the air all summer long was torture! Those pepper steaks tasted soooooo good! And the hot dos were to die for, too. Home made french fries, etc. Did you know that Mrs. (Hugo) Marconi sold the building years ago, but she stills lives upstairs over the sail shop?! Bless her, she is a remarkable lady!

I remember as a child holding a paper box on my lap with a long piece of fried fish in it, and by the time we drove over the bridge back into Portsmouth a little ways, I'd rip the narrow end of the fish off and start eating it! I also remember the mechanical yellow bull. I loved the fried clams, too, until I found out I was eating 'bellies.' That grossed me out so much as a child, and I wouldn't eat them for a while, but I'd eat them now! LOL!

Yes! We had relatives in Kittery (still do) and Portsmouth and Hugos was always a stop when we visited them. We had pictures of the bull though I doubt I could ever find them again.
