What about cancer in Maine?
Maine does not have the highest percentage of smokers in the US according to any source or information I have seen.

According to smokefree.gov, it ranks 32nd in percentage of smokers:

http://smokefree.gov/map.aspx

This article shows a map by the Centers for Disease Control of smoking prevalence by state. Maine is not #1 or close to #1:

Another CDC US smoking prevalence map, scroll down (Maine is not #1 or close):

I'm not sure if it's possible to go from #1 to 32nd in a year or two. In any case, it's not very likely. Two of those maps are from 2010. Also, the reason I looked up/checked the information now is because I did a search in fall 2009 for smoking prevalence by state and found the rates were mostly highest in the south, and not too high in the northeast, which was notable to me since cancer rates are high in the northeast.

It is very possible that we jumped from #1 to #32 from 2009 to now.

Maine wasn't #1 or near the top in 2009 according to CDC data for the year 2009:

Still, 18.2% is the highest in the northeastern states. Not a very good thing in my oppinion. So what if Maine isn't the highest. It sure feels like it when you go out and there are 18 smokers out of every 100 people.

Definitely not a good thing in my opinion either.

I thought the information (that Maine isn't at the top or near it) was relevant though, since Maine has the highest cancer rate in the country, and a high lung cancer rate, despite not having a high percentage of smokers on the percentage-of-smokers-by-state spectrum, because it suggests other causes for the high cancer rate.
