Up the coast? I'd rather take the hills up I-81. Beautiful scenery and better on a bike. Along the coast, I have wanted to go across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel on RT 13 for quite a few years. Used to take it from Delaware down Emporia VA and hit I-95 going to S.C. in the 60's. Gonna be a long ride for ya either way. Have fun, ride safe, and enjoy.

IMHO opinion, I would wai to ride "along the coast" after getting farther up the way. Perhaps around Rhode Island? Have a safe trip. I do know that we just made the trip last year (via car) and it was over 21 hours.

Was that a typo? I don't recall a Greenville, NC, just a Greenville, SC. Either way, ILUVMAINE is right. It is such a long trip that you might want to consider alternatives. Hubby and I came up the Blue Ridge Parkway when we moved up. Once you reach the end at Front Royal, you can follow I81 up to Maine, and then follow the coast. There is a plenty of coast to explore, and even more scenic roads to ride. Here in Maine, most of the primary roads have very wide shoulders, making it safer for cyclists.

You might try Googling it, Casper.... or figure someone knows their home town. Most North Carolinians and South Carolinians are partial enough to their state that confusing the two -- or even referring to "the Carolinas" can cause quite a ruckus!

Greenville is just west of Washington ( no, silly, not DC... what is locally referred to as "little Washington) , or we could say NNE of Kinston, which is a large enough place most folks have heard of it.

There really AREN'T any good "along the coast" routes from that part of NC, thought VA, unfortunately...

Having served my time in NC AND SC - Starwalker is right on target. In NC if you say Carolina football - Tarheels come to mind BUT in SC don't assume that when you say Carolina football that they mean tarheels.

Regarding your trip - get farther north before you plan on enjoying the view. LOL
