Where is Graham Lake, AG? Is it really shallow? I've never been to (or on) a man-made lake. Is it a resevoir? Can you swim in it?

Graham Lake is a man made hydro electric generation project - sounds dreadful doesn't it? It's really quite lovely and you can read more about it on the Graham Lake thread right here on City-Data's Maine forum. It is a very large lake located in Ellsworth, Mariaville and Otis. I swim in it every day that's it's warm in the summer. We have a nice sandy beach, dock, little pontoon boat, two kayaks.

Graham Lake. .Maine's greatest secret
We have a camp on Graham Lake that we have enjoyed for several years. Spent summer vacations enjoying swimming, fishing, photographing nature. It was our secret family get away. Unfortunately, kids are grown and we need to sell to pay for college but the memories of Graham Lake and it's natural beauty and peacefulness will always have a special place in our hearts.

Is there no such thing? I kind of had it in my head that there would be at few if not several lakes like that (without motorcraft) in southern to midcoast Maine - but I'm now thinking I was mistaken. ???

I am fortunate enough to live on such a lake, a great pond actually(over 30 acres). It is spring fed, limited to 6 hp boats and stocked with rainbow trout. There are a few similar well kept secrets around. You would have to advertise wiell in advance of your arrival to find rental accommodations. Most places in this category are privately owned and peopled by full time residents.

It does look like Chimney Pond,(which by the way they won't let you swim in anymore!), but if you run your cursor over it, it says Crater Lake.
Weird, the only crater anything I could find in the state was Crater Pond in
T15 R9....
