The report is there have been many striped bass caught off the beaches in York county already. They have been caught as far north as New Meadows River in Bath. The really big ones have not been seen in any real numbers yet though we remain hopeful. One was caught at York beach this week 45 inches long weighing nearly 40 pounds. After the dismal year last year, this summer is starting to look encouraging.

at first glance I thought the thread title was "Strippers Are Here". I thought it was another "Coffee Shop" thread!

Default bass

How far along the coast does the striper migration go?
Do they show up in the Machias for instance?
Furthest N/E location for surf fishing ?

Hmmm... I have been behind two striping crews in the last week. I hate it when I run over a freshly painted line.

They can make it that far north some years but it really depends. For reliable fish stay south of Acadia NP. I know the last 2 years there were few if any stripers there. (I'm sure the locals know where to find some though).

Nova Scotia has a decent population though and I saw reports of people getting nice ones in the rivers up there. They seem to have a northern holdover population that doesn't follow the normal migratory fish we see in northern New England.

stripers will follow the alewives (a baitfish) up many rivers along the coast,
many folks in the augusta area fish for them on the kennebec river, and even up in winslow, they are fished for.
the schoolies are fun to catch, they fight as good as any fish, but the big stripers, are really fun to catch too, i caught a 30lber a few years back.... very good tasting fish

I have found these to be the most fun fish I have ever caught. I have only caught 2 here in Ohio and boy do they put up a fight.

Stripers came up the Penobscot in 1974 and the fishing was great for a month. I think it was July into August and then one day they were gone.
