All I have to say is BELFAST, MAINE! If you truly want to open an organic restaurant or store, you couldn't ask for a better place. The area is very open to everything and there is plenty of room to farm. Low house prices, lower taxes, peace and quiet. May I suggest the Frankfort area as you are 15 minutes to Belfast and Bangor, 30 minutes from Camden, an hour and a half from Bar Harbor. It's a great location.

you might want to do a bit of research with MOFGA - "Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association. Try to visit Unity Maine during the "Common Ground Fair" weekend which is put on by MOFGA. You will gain much valuable information there by just questioning people that run the booths. There is no midway at this fair and I believe no cafine products are allowed to be sold.

And I agree; employment would be my first priority not surrounding myself with like politics. Where's the fun (discussions/debates) in that?
LOL - that knocked me out of my chair - I love it!! Please, stay as conservative as you can up there guys. You're my kinda folks!!

BTW - I second Vermont. My in-laws have their summer home there. They're extra crunchy. Threatened to disown hubby when he went into law enforcement because he carries an evil gun and is mean to people. LOL!! I almost fell over when I heard that. If they had it their way, their son would be out there with no way to defend himself trying to talk a murdered into putting down the machete and talking out his problems. Haha!!

They are not against caffeine.

They are against imported food.

Maine Organic Farming encourages Maine produce. There are Maine farms who are growing coffee beans, but so far they are not in heavy production to allow providing beans to the fair.

In time we will have Maine grown coffee.

The ironic thing there is, as far as I know, Vermont has next to no gun laws. They don't even need a permit to conceal.

Another component is liberal constraints on businesses. If you look over the map, the 'bluest' parts of the map are also the places with the highest cost of living.

This isn't guaranteed; no doubt there are exceptions, but it's a pretty good rule of thumb.

I know they grow coffee in Connecticut and it's pretty good. It's like Turkish coffee, quite strong. A church group grows it and I bet it's organic. Tobacco is grown all up the Connecticut valley, right into Vermont. Most of it is wrapper tobacco for cigars.
