No Summer in Maine this year!
With all of the rain, fog, drizzle and cold temperatures we have had this spring it does not look great for summer. The Ocean is still cold and even when it's sunny the raw wind off the ocean puts a bite in the air. We're still running the oil furnace on rainy days as temperatures struggle to get out of the 50's. It's June 19th as I write this and this is by far the longest we have run the heat into the spring of any year I can remember since we moved into this house 22 years ago.
I have not been able to paint anything out doors yet as we have not had more than two days of sun here in the last month. My nice dry firewood is going to have to dry out all over again from sitting in all of this rain!
My apples are going to suffer as I can't keep spray on them long enough to kill the bugs before another round of rain soaks us.
We are still very much in a winter weather pattern. I hope it changes soon!
Global warming my foot!

There was a Nova special on "Global dimming" a while back, that told how in the 2 or three days after 9/11/01....when they grounded ALL air traffic...that the difference between high and low temps recorded were record breaking. It seems that the vapor trails left by high flying commercial jets sheilded the earth, offsetting global warming, and allowing less sunlight to penetrate the atmosphere. When it went away.... the temps went up! Talk about "air-traffic-control"!
Any reason not to paint, is a good one!

True though I don't get to play (fish or hunt) unless the painting and the rest of the outdoor fix ups get sorted out by fall and I always have a bunch of stuff to get done!

While Spring was a little slow getting to WI, it has now arrived with a vengeance. It's so freakin' hot and humid, it's almost impossible to breathe outside.
I'll take 50's and raining every time over stifling hot and humid.
Wanna trade???

SURE Anytime! When you've gone through a long snowy winter only to hit a cold rainy spring Hot and Humid sounds good!
We have had close to 3 inches of rain since yesterday. My back yard looks like a lake and the sump pump has been running constantly on for the last two hours!

I built fires in June and have never done that before. Once the cold snapped passed it's been cooler than usual but still warm and sunny. We've had just the right amount of rain to keep the crops growing with only one watering. I'm crossing my fingers for decent weather Sunday. It doesn't have to be sunny but not raining would be great. We're going to hike in Baxter.

Back in the 1600s there were telescopes that allowed astronomers to look at the sun through smoked glass. They observed sun spots and were amazed. Then the sun spots went away. This was followed by an 85 year cooling period called the mini-ice age. Global warming and global cooling are both caused by the sun. We could be going into a period of global cooling.

Very true NMLM, I also feel that this is the case. We are in for longer and cooler winters, shorter and cooler summers.

Several of our science teachers are avid astronomers. They have been commenting all spring about the lack of sun spots, and thus the cooler/wetter temps. They said it looks to be another cooler and wetter summer due to lack of sunspots. If memory serves, sun spots have been very low the past few years.
WHile I don't doubt that humans create havoc to the earth, I believe the sun has a much greater influence.
This summer is depressing me. As a motorcyclist, we have a very short season. School is out and my "summer job" of riding needs to begin, yet we have had little sunshine. I am depressed.

You truly don't want hot and humid. We were in Chattanooga yesterday temp of 96 and humidity seemed like 100 was only 85%. The humidity is so stifling it takes your breath.
