My son who is in his mid thirties is a stand up comic and he works some gigs up in Bangor, so there is some night life up there. He usually works in clubs from Boston to Bangor, mostly around Portland.

Well I just checked his myspace and his gigs in Bangor weren't club related; tonight he is at the Elks Club and in Sept he was at a place called the Bangor Spectacular Events Center.

The spectacular event center is a hall/catering business set up to do weddings, meetings and events etc. If you were looking for work maybe you could get on their referral list to DJ weddings etc.

Pete and Larry's has a dance floor but I don't think they have bands. Barnaby's has the younger crowd, no bands. Both are in Bangor. Just off the Orono campus is 103 Ultra Lounge. They have bands and dj's. Occasionally some of the bands are big names like Hinton and Rodney Atkins.

EWEEEE!!!! maybe I don't want to move to Bangor!
I love dancing - BUT so not at clubs!!! I like outdoor festivals and music - local or not so local bands. Are there weekly music venues?
How about great occupational Christmas parties??? Which workplaces throw the best holiday parties???

Bangor is too small and too 'rural' to host this kind of activity.
Portland will be the only place in Maine were you could even find this sort of stuff.

As far as I know every hall has it's own schedule for dances and parties.
The Old Town VFW where I am a member has a full schedule every weekend through to February.
The OT American Legion does, the OT Elks do, the OT K-of-C does.
The OT Masonic Lodge does.
Some of the OT churches have dinners, and some have parties.
Plus 'Pete and Larry's', Barnaby's, 'Ultra Lounge'.
Alton has a dance hall that is an old barn, it is only open for the scheduled dances. I have never been inside, though I got the impression from the signs that they have bands playing most weekends through the winter.
Bangor may be too rural to have a wide variety of stuff for some tastes.
OT is significantly smaller than Bangor. Though OT does have enough dances and parties going on each weekend that you would be hard pressed to visit them all.

nightlife
wow, too much to say on this topic...but...I was going to open a nightclub in Bangor last year, but keep putting if off due to market conditions.
Bangor has mostly a pub scene. The little bit of nightclub scene is at Barnabys(which is a banquet room) and Club Gemini.
If you want to contact me directly I can give you hours of information---I had a nightclub in Bangor back in the late 80's early 90's and have owned a nightclub in Portland's Old Port from 1993 to 2006.
Gemini has a myspace page
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=41464753
Bangor is a SMALL market--anywhere else around Bangor is too small. period.
Good luck!

Not to be snotty but the terms "Bangor" and "night life" should not be used in the same sentence. Especially in the winter.

It doesn't sound "snotty" to me at all; it sounds like a pleasant community! But then again I am an old guy!
