Ahhhhhhh The Bounty! I've been trying to remember that name. All I could think of was "the place that looked like a ship." Do you remember the place downtown? Coming down State Street hill, turn right with traffic, then turn left at the first light. It was on the left side of that street, downstairs in the building it was in. What was the name of that place? I used to go there a lot and for the life of me I can't remember. I blame it on Mommyheimers.

downtown club
Molly:
There were several clubs downtown in Bangor:
Finnegans on Franklin st, which is probably what you are thinking of..
I ran Club Roxy, which was in Grant Building(now eastern mt sports) and we had 2002/Spectrum chem free club downstairs in the basement from 89-91.
Hope that jogs your memory!
on a side note, I bounced at the Bounty from 87-88 and was GM of Legends from 91-93.

OK, I have to ask now...WTH is a "techno" club, and a "trance" club?
The first a joint where electronic techs go, and the second a refuge for the freshly lobotomized?

I found this:
"Trance is a style of electronic music that developed in the 1990s. Trance music is generally characterized by a tempo of between 130 and 160 BPM, featuring repeating melodic synthesizer phrases, and a musical form that builds up and down throughout a track. It often features crescendos and breakdowns. Sometimes vocals are also utilized. The style is arguably derived from a combination of largely electronic music such as ambient music, techno, and house. The origin of the term is ambiguous with suggestions that the term is derived from the Klaus Schulze album Trancefer or the early trance act Dance 2 Trance though it is likely that both these uses are linked to the perceived ability of a drum beat to induce altered states of consciousness. As this music is almost always played in nightclubs at popular vacation spots and in inner cities, trance can be understood as a form of club music.
Techno is a form of electronic dance music that had its early beginnings in Western Europe in the late 1970s and later developed and established as a genre in Detroit, Michigan during the 1980s. It was influenced by Chicago house, electro, New Wave, funk and futuristic fiction themes that were prevalent and relative to modern culture during the end of the Cold War in industrial America at that time. Following the initial success of Detroit techno as a musical culture, at the very least on a regional level, an expanded and related subset of genres in the 1990s emerged globally. The popularity of techno in Europe peaked in this decade. Today the popularity of techno is widespread. It may be the most popular genre in Central Europe and Eastern Europe, especially Poland, Germany and Russia. The term "techno" is derived from the word technology. Music journalists and fans of the genre are generally selective in their use of the term, careful not to conflate it with related but distinct genres, such as house, trance and hardcore. At the same time, "techno" is commonly confused with general terms such as electronic music and dance music. Electronic dance music has many forms, one of which is techno."

Synth noise at a fast beat rarely including vocals.
ahh, there is a Tele advert about bleeding ear drums and piercing your ears and scratching, etc.
I think it may be describing this 'music'.

Club Roxy!! thank you!! Yes...I was in college at the University from 84-88, and then I lived in the Bangor area. In 87 and 88 a bunch of us would go out and make the rounds. Our favorite was the Roxy! lol.... a bit classier than the Bounty, though we spent time there too .....
oh....the memories....
and Eastern Mountain Sports--thank you!! bought a life jacket there this summer, but I couldn't remember the name!

We used to go to the Bounty in the mid to late 70s. Then we grew up and headed to Peak's Hill Lodge in Dedham. LOL
