Default Loon Chicks Made It

After we had 5.2 inches of rain in 2 days and the lake rose a foot and a half I figured this year's loon eggs or chicks were done for. Tonight we had Mama and her two chicks swim right by camp. They must have hatched before the flood and been protected under Mama's wings. The chicks are just fuzz balls and no bigger than a loon's egg. Mama loon was whooping with joy and telling Papa to bring supper.

Our loon babies are a little bigger. We watched Mama and two babies make their way down the lake last evening. Didn't catch sight of Dad, he must have been fishing for them. One spring, before nesting season we had twelve pair in front of the house. Fabulous.
