It is so wet out there, it really effects what we can do this week.

We "tried" to mow lawns today. It looked like we were haying. What a mess! We need at least two weeks of solid sunshine in the 70's to dry out this standing water.
We decided to go to downtown Freeport tomorrow to see the 10 minute parade and attend the "clean water" clambake at the fire house. There is also a free concert by Patty Loveless at LL Bean and fireworks. It all takes place less than a mile from here so why not? We'll have lobsters and peas on the 5th!

On July 4, 1861 my great great aunt, who lived in Saccarappa (Westbrook Maine) made this entry in her journal.

"A splendid day for celebrating. We went to Cousin Augusta’s saw the military parade went on to the ground to see the balloon exhibition. Took dinner on green peas and repaired again to the scene of the balloon ascension, remained there three or more hours and retired without seeing it after all. Did not witness the fireworks. Alarm of fire, house burned on Union Street. "

That's really neat Elston!!! What a terrific way to be connected to the past. So personalized!!!

Hoping I can get up to Maine by nightfall to see some fireworks over Pen Bay... heck of a day for traveling... might have to take the 495 loop instead of heading straight thru beantown... since everyone and their brother is headed in for the Pops concert and fireworks... and then the split for Cow Hampshire or Maine looms large... before I can breathe the Maine air...

Happy 4th everyone! It sure is a GLORIOUS weather day here on the Cape!!! That blue sky is a keeper!!!!!!!!!!!!
