Thank you, Julz and Lttt.

I would truly hate to have a mortgage hovering over me. I bought what I could afford, and planned construction within the context of what I knew that I could afford to do while living on my pension.

It took me a number of years of designing my future home, to finally come to the idea of a 'warehouse', and then to customize it into a 'homey' farmhouse. It was done mostly while I was living and working underwater on different subs.

I do understand that I see and do things differently, then again in our culture how many career submariners are there? LOL

I saw a home vaguely similar to this once...we walked inside and it was one huge room. Bedroms etc. had walls but everthing shared the same high ceiling. My husband was facinated by it. He was in the German Navy - had some experience in submarines too....I wonder if the confines of a submarine has anything to do with the both of you appreciating the warehouse concept for a home. Thanks for sharing

LOL

We both like high ceilings ? That could very well be the case.

I have been inside some small cabins in Maine, though I think that if the snow ever did pile high, I might not be happy inside a small cramped cabin.

May I ask what boats was he on?
