Question Please answer questions on HD antennas.

Tell me .. as much as you know about HD antennas. I have that box for the tv, but if I have the HD antenna.... will that help work the box with the tv... etc?

When we first connected it to the Converter, we laid it on top of the tv & got only a few stations. We hooked up a 100 ft round cable, ran it up to the attic, hookedup theHD antenna & hung it on the rafters. the higher the better.

Technically they aren't HD antennas, they're just UHF antennas. Digital broadcasts in the UHF whereas analog broadcasted in VHF and UHF. If your existing antenna is old it wont hurt to replace it, they're cheap for rabbit ears.

Some of these antennas are amplified because the digital signal now being broadcast does not have the range the analog signal did.

Default HD Antenna

Peachie We had an antenna on the roof here in Palmyra, and one at camp in St. Albans which was up about 40' both had rotors and channel 5 always came in great 2 and 7 were always real snowy. MPBN channel 10 and 12 were fair. After the converter boxes were added 5 and the CW were still good and 10,12 really cleared up. WE lost ch 2 all together and 7
was only fair. Our problem has always been poor reception and digital didn't work out so we had to go DISH. Hope you have better luck

I'm in Belfast and have rabbit ears hooked to my box, all I get is CBS and CW and I barely get those. After seeing this thread I realized that I had wanted to try a few different ideas to see if I could get more stations. I took a small TV, a box and a set of rabbit ears up to the attic to see if that would help...no go...still the same. We just set up a new antenna at my parents house in Monroe...they still barely get CBS and CW. Neither of us can get NBC or ABC. Stupid digital TV conversion forcing people to get cable/dish if they want to even watch local news...I'll just go without TV.

Thanks... I just don't want a dish. Because are aren't home enough to sit and watch tv anyways.
I just would enjoy some local news and weather at the end of the day.
We have an ole antenna on the house that worked very well. Now we only get two Canadian channels.

Our house is an camp to the fellow owners. It's a nice camp if I may say. 3 bedroom living dining kitchen bath and loft with an 1 ac of land(We bought it in the early 2000's)
If I get one of these antennas.. where should I get it?? I really want one.

There is a ton of antenna information in this forum:

HDTV Technical - AVS Forum

You would first want to check the Over-the-Air Digital Television Reception FAQ thread.

This is also a pretty good summary of antennas in the digital transition:

Get Directv with the digital recorder and you can record anything you want and watch it whenever you get time. We have had Directv for many years now and have always liked it much more than cable.
