Default Androscoggin Riverlands State Park

Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands: Planning & Acquisition

I have been following this on and off and most recently have been following it again as it is in the news. I am suprised to see so many people with so many different reasons who are against it.

It's been 20 years since a new state park has been created, and I think it would be nice to have something like this near Lewiston and Auburn. I actually wish it was closer to the twin cities.

Just wondering what people here think of it.

I think it is a good plan. It's not far from my Uncles old dairy farm too. Looks like a great place to just get away and roam around.

Default Riverland State Park

I vaguely remember that area from 45 years ago, always went duck hunting and canoeing there ,when we lived in Lewiston. I have to say that it sounds like a great benefit, not only to the Twin Cities, but to Turner and Leeds as well . If Gulf Island Dam is still operating, does it have a fish-way or is it operating at all ? Back then, there was this foam that settled in every quiet part of the river and looked like the expanding foam we use to insulate around windows. NASTY ..
My 40th class reunion should be coming next year so I might get down there and have a look

If this was a good idea, there would already be a private campground to meet the need. The problem is that private citizens are not allowed to do what the state does.

The state is robbing the highway trust fund for Baldacci's special projects. Augusta owes the hospitals and doctors about a half billion dollars. Lets pay the Docs before government takes more private land. I'm not a Doc, just a seasoned citizen who remembers how Maine used to be before we had a sales tax and Augusta went crazy with such excessive spending.

NMLM! I do support this as I think it will be a good thing for me and the L/A area. But I really can't disagree with your point of view. It was the 1st thing that ran through my mind when I saw the article on it

On another note, I find a lot of real outdoorsman or woodsmen who are already enjoying the land for what it is do not like the idea of this happening because it will usually restrict usage rather then enhance it.

But for people like me who love the outdoors and hiking and such, but are really not avid outdoorsmen, will tend to get much more usage out of having this near my home. Living in some of our larger cities down south I found there was an abundant of outdoor activities available to me. Some of it was the weather but a lot of the reason was the many accessible and usable state or local parks located near me.
