Default Enough with the condos

There will be a Kittery town meeting Thurs at 6 to discuss building MORE CONDOS
behind the Weathervane Restaurant which is on Spruce Creek. I can't tell you how crazy this makes me. If it makes anyone else crazy, please come and voice your objections.

It seems like there have been plenty of posts from folks who want to live on the border, with a foot in Maine and a foot outside of Maine.

IMHO, a border town like Kittery would be ideal for that.

I would imagine there would exist a great demand for units in that area. I could see a 200-unit apartment complex making a lot of money there.

Or maybe condos.

I assume you do not like condos? I don't either. Land has value and single-family dwellings just use up land with a fairly low density of people. For an urban area like that, I would think that medium size apartment complexes, or large complexes even, would be far better land-usage.

I don't care for condos in general. My mother in law lives in a condo in Auburn and has no rights to anything. We were down there a couple weeks ago and had some very nice high end patio furniture sitting on the lawn, some of the neighbors complained. Not allowed to have anything on the lawns...explain that to a family with young children. You pay the same amount or moer for a condo compared to a single family house and have next to no rights to the property. You basically pay RENT on a place that you supposedly own...on top of the mortgage that you have to pay when buying...

That being said, theres definitely still a place for condos and they are great for some people...just not me.

What I'm talking about is environmental impact. Those condos would be right on Spruce Creek. And Kittery is hardly what I would call an urban area, spend much time here Forest? Maybe we should build them in Argyle.

Everytime that land is converted from farm or forest to residential it does 'harm' to the environment.

There are areas of New Jersey that are unpopulated, however New Jersey is still urban in my vision. You see even the unpopulated swamps of NJ are still within commuting distance of very high density cities. So each time they fill-in an area of swamp, it gets high capacity residential popped in place. The reason is that it is still 'urban'.

I have been to Kittery.

You would have a hard time filling condos in Argyle. Any area with a density of less than 10 people per square mile would have a difficult time filling condos. The reason being that such areas are rural, and not urban.

But if you wish to build here, have a ball.
