Default Lakefront home in Winthrop

Need some opinions on a lakefront property in Winthrop. The house is listed as waterfront at the back of the property and fronts a major road or even state route rd. Looks like a golf course is accross the street. Anyone know the neighborhood? What are thoughts of the town for a family with young kids. I don't know the area, so any info would be helpful. Is this a busy street for those that know the area. I've been seeing this house on the market for over a year and curious if something is scaring off buyers??? How is the school system here, town population?

Winthrop is a different sort of place. It has a small downtown area off route 202. Augusta services are very close and Lewiston is not far away. The place you're looking at is probably on route 202 as it runs between the lake and the golf course. 202 is a VERY busy road. There must be a consolidated school district there as the town is far too small to support a high school though I do not know for sure. I have a friend who has lived there for about 20 years. He's moving soon though not due to any issues with the area he's moving for work. They had no kids so the school thing is a mystery to me. I wouldn't want a house on 202 but that's just me.

In my travels to and from Augusta on many occasions I have stayed overnight in Winthrop and found it a very nice town.
202 would be a deal breaker for me also.

Winthrop is a very nice small town. One of my best friends from college is from there. There are several lakes in the area and it is close to Augusta for all your shopping needs.

I agree, it's a very nice small town. What I like is how little it has changed over the years (although that can be said of many places in Maine, I know).

We used to vacation on Lake Maranacook, but on the other end of the lake, near Readfield. Last time I stayed there (in 2005), so many things were just the same as they were in the '50s and '60s.

That said, living in a house on 202 would not be my first choice - it's a busy road.

As mainebrokerman said, the biggest (only?) golf course in that area in the Augusta Country Club, and the lake it is closest to is Cobbosseecontee. If the house was on one of the side streets, that would be one thing. But on 202/100/17 .... as you say, the house has been on the market for over a year, and it could very well be the location on a major road that scaring potential buyers.
