Maybe Moving to Augusta Area
Hello,
My wife works in medicine and is thinking about accepting a job offer in the Augusta area. We currently live in Wichita KS and I was wondering about the cost of living, housing, climate, and general conditions of the Augusta area.
Ideally we would like to live in the country outside of a town.
Thanks in advance.

id suggest west gardiner area, its about 12 miles from augusta and is known for very low taxes,
you'd be "out in the country" yet close to all amenities

Augusta is close enough to the ocean that the Kennebec has tides there. Because of the low altitude it doesn't get as cold in Augusta as it does further north. I expect the cost of living is lower than most other state capitols.
Psst. Has anybody told you that Maine government is way - way behind in its payments to doctors and hospitals. Be sure to check that out, especially if you intend to treat patients on public assistance.

Vassalboro--Waterville-Wiscasett-Livermore
We have family friends who live in Vassalboro ME and where their home is there is virtually no one within 10 miles. - they have a few miles of trails in their land they created ..
Vassalboro might be an area worth checking into land wise for you to build a home on or find a home
Other communities you might check out are
Windsor
Winthrop
Belgrade
Oakland
Waterville
Fairfield
Sidney//North Sidney
Jefferson (out by Darmiscotta lake)
Maybe Richmond or Whiefield as well
Wiscasett might be another option for you
Livermore or Leeds might be a good area as well (around Androscoggin lake area)
Hope this helps

Welcome GardinerMainStreet. For an example of a well done web site about another Maine town check out Welcome to Lincoln, Maine!. They run the only full service advertising agency north of Bangor and could do a site for Gardiner too.
