Default Name This Spider

So I noticed this little (I use the term loosely) devil last week at a dam (naturally I didn't have my camera). I came prepared this last weekend, and got a shot of him or her.

I'm sure one of you sage posters knows the name of this beast as it completely eludes me at the moment.

Thanks for any help!

It looks like a fishing spider.

I was going to say that Bob would be a good name as well.

Other than that, I can offer zero help.

I thought 'Blackie' would fit as a moniker as well... unless the color is due to the lighting and angle....

If you're not looking for a pet name, I can't offer any help either... as I really dislike spiders. Even though I know they're good for eating bugs, they've taken a couple chunks out of now, so I'm all set with them!

Yikes! That one looks like a wolf spider to me. I still remember the first time I saw a spider that big in my first apartment when I was 18. I picked up a magazine to throw on top of it (a Cosmopolitan) and then decided that I probably needed several magazines to throw, just in case I missed. I ended up asking my next door neighbor to help me out because I kept thinking something this big could actually jump across the room at me. He even freaked out a little when he saw it, but brought a large sized phone book that did the trick.

Here is one I took 3 years ago.
They will skim the top of the water and feel for vibrations on or under the surface and then attack.
A mild venom will disable their prey and then "lunch is on!"
These spiders can actually enclose themselves in an air bubble, submerge and kill small fish.

Holy BLEEP! I think I might be in need of anxiety and blood pressure meds. Could someone pass the hat and collect them? Don't worry about it being too much after that picture. I'm ok with spiders if I know they're there and as long as they aren't going to jump off my laptop and onto my nose.
