Default Maine People Sighting in WI

Stopped at the local grocery store today way over here in Wisconsin and saw a vehicle pull in with Maine license plates. Had to find out what they were doing so far from God's Country so I asked. They were a couple from Jay, Maine and the fellow transferred here to the Wausau Papers Mill. They've been here a whole 3 weeks and like it so far. Nice friendly folk (as I suspected).

It's been a long time since I've seen real genuine Maine people in person.

Probably because the Wausau plant in Maine was closed back in March.

Glad to see he got transferred instead of being out on the streets.

Why would you go to Georgia if you lived in Maine?

We stopped at a McDonald's in Chamberlain, South Dakota yesterday and saw a woman get out of a car with a Maine license plate! Mainers do get around!

When I lived in Cumberland, the woman that I was renting as my wife and I used to have a contest every spring. We would see who could see all 50 state license plates first in the spring as the tourists arrived.

She usually won since I spent so much of my days traveling up into the "real" Maine where the majority of my clients were. She also used to cheat because she and her girlfriend used to go to Freeport at least once, and sit in the parking lot at LL Bean.

I remember once only Alaska had eluded both of us, and I "found" a car with Alaska plates as I drove through Ellsworth heading downeast.

Incidentally, if you ever need to find a car with Alaska plates in Maine, drive to Southwest Harbor. The coast guard station there usually has an Alaska car or two. And no, they are not escaping Sarah Palin, but are go back and forth between the two coast guard areas by assignment.
