HughesNet service in Washington County.. is it good?
I got a flyer this weekend and I've been reading it and doing some "slow checking out" of this company. Does anyone know anything about HughesNet?
Is it reasonable.. simple..
I don't need all the bells and whistle.
Anyone know anything about this?

Rural High-Speed Internet Service - HughesNet Satellite Internet
I did some looking on te web and came up with this site. $60 a month for high speed net. It takes a satalite dish on the house from what I gather. says by satalite not the phone lines and you can surf and talk on the phone at the same time. I do that now with no dish and $15 less.

We run "Un-Fairpoint". Thinking about checking the numbers with Time Warner though. Last time I looked it was about the same but that was Verizon then.

Was looking at Hughes myself because where I will be doesn't have Dsl..cable not available. Asked a very good friend who had used Hughes and told me ....DON'T! Service was slow, was shut off because of over usage although supposedly was never told anything about that and a few other issues. They have since dumped the service. This person relies on the internet for business reasons and is pretty up on this stuff.
Then again, everyone has their own horror story at times no matter what they use. Since I know this person personally and know her experience with different providers in various parts of the country, I do put faith in her comments.

My wifes grandmother had Hughes at one point and it was horrible. It was so slow and unreliable. Whenever it was raining or snowing there was no internet. I don't think I would ever sign up with them after seeing it at her house.

The only good words I've heard about Hughes, was the guy tring to sell it to me. Most of the posts here are the same that I have heard before. We have dial up still because that is all that we can get or hughes, and the price differeance here is tirty to forty bucks different. So I just deal with dial up and hope cable will one day get here.

My Daughter had the satellite internet in Vermont and hated it. They ended up getting Blackberries and going with their wireless system. They're still not all that fired up about the wireless system but she says it's 10 times better than the sattellite.
