As a kid we use to walk to the Breakwater- A Restaurant not far from the Colony on the other side of the road, and Mabel's Lobster Claw,( I met Mabel, 35 yrs ago) not sure if the place is still there, use to like the Arundle Wharf too-all these places were on Ocean Ave.
ForeFathers, on the log cabin road was a favorite too....

I remember taking some returnable money and walking to a restaurant that sold burgers as big as dinner plates. To buy one was to experience the unknown.

Most of the other time it was to walk to the corner store (near by the restaurant) for penny candy.

Back then, returnable money was money from turning in old bottles which would be washed and reused. Peachie is older than I thought. (I shouldn't say that.)

We used to pick up enough bottles walking to the store to buy something once we arrived. You can still pick up bottles and cans and return them for recycling--5 cents each.
